After one day of trying you can be sure that i will have a lot of
questions in the future ? The only thing that kept me going is my
terrier mentality not my knowledge ;)
I tried to patch for initrd
The patches for 2.2.16 can't be applied automatical because of
some small changes. But most of them can be applied manual,
what i did, but i encountered a problem in /drivers/block/rd.c
there are two main changes __initfunc --> __init
and there was a change in the structure from values to pointers.
I hope i can work that out ( but i am not an expert on C at all :=) )
at least i found out why the first kernel didn't work , as you
suggested it was the difference between a tgz file and a image, the
normal kernel expect an image.
you 'll hear from me

I hope so , kernel 2.4 has some good opportunities.
