Scott: the paragraph just before the one you cite states (I just added the
number for comments):
<beg quote>
You may distribute a precompiled package if
1/ installing your package produces exactly the same files, in exactly the
same locations, that a user would obtain by installing one of my packages
listed above;
2/your package behaves correctly, i.e., the same way as normal installations
of my package on all other systems;
3/ and your package's creator warrants that he has made a good-faith attempt
to ensure that your package behaves correctly.
<end quote>
About 1/ This is obviously what we are doing: we compile under debian/slink
(technical requirement from LRP) and put the programs in a place where they
can be stored by the standard djb install program
About 2/ I think most of us have been using dnscache without any glitch.
qmail is also running without any pb...
About 3/ Here again I think all of us have been spending a lot of time to
promote & make djb programs easily available & behaves without any problem in
the LRP environment.
The restriction about uscpi & daemontools are unclear. DJB mentions them in a
paragraph called "test packages". They are only mentionned for a specific
version (the new daemontool 0.76 for example, mine is 0.70)
My basic understanding (perhaps too simplistic) is that DJB does not want
someone to modify its source. None of us has done that.
Let see if djb answers to Andrew message. I am not too optimistic on this.
If djb wants us to remove our packages, we will.
A remark to David: I think that djb packages are available for Debian. It has
been the case for quite some time.
Jacques
