Andrew,
All good questions, without answers at this time. I expect we'll be able to
generate a consensus in the next couple of months that will make most of us
happy. With the package permissions set to 664 we'll be able to move
packages around. Eventually we will arrive at a directory tree that we can
use for CVS too.
Expect things to be bumpy at first and keep local backups of your packages.
I suggest that prior to scp of a new package to /pub/packages check to make
sure there are no name conflicts. If there are, post a message to this list.
