First, as others have already noted, yout LEAF router needs to be connected
to a normal port on the hub. The term "uplink" port can be confusing; it's
really a reverse-wired port intended to simplify the process of connecting
two hubs together (you connect the uplink port of one hub to a regular port
n the other).

Second, when troubleshooting connectivity, metaphorical descriptions like
"doesn't see it" are generally unhelpful. What actual test(s) do you employ
and how does it (do they) fail?

In the LEAF FAQ is a series of entries discussing analysis of ping failures.
Looking at them migh make sense for you. If you want more direct help after
you try that, be sure to tell us the basics of the setup ... particularly
telling us something about the desktop client (like what OS it is running,
what it thinks its interface address and routing table look like, and
whether its networking has run properly in any other setting).

It is similarly difficult to give you advice about configuring IP addresses
manually when all you tell us is that "It didn't really work when I tried it
before". Try telling us what you tried and how it failed. But you probably
can make DHCP work for you, so this part should be unnecessary.
