Is this PC (The Windows 98 Machine) on a NT based network ( is there an NT
Server Box somewhere on the Network?) as this may have the DHCP server
installed as well...

Maybe....
Are you running a cable modem or a normal dialup PPP connection? If cable
eth0 should be connected to the cable modem (this is fine). If not eth0
should be connected to your LAN... (then you would have a problem)

What you have got is fine..

This Might be helpfull,  :)

You could try running winipcfg on the Win98 box and see what IP address it
is getting from the DHCP server (if its getting one at all), as it might be
on the wrong IP range -- eg 192.168.1.2 instead of 192.168.0.2 (which would
explain your inability to ping)

Well I'd have to say this is all the advise i can offer at the moment....
