I'll set the debug option and see if I can get more info.  username and 
password are okay because it does make the connection, I can see that in 
the ppp log.  The sample log entries from my first message are from the 
daemon log.  I know this ISP account is okay since I can connect to it 
okay from a Windows laptop.  I must admit this seems like an odd one to 
me, but then I haven't had to do dialup in a long time (moved to the 
country and no broadband available..darn).
