kp,
Thanks for your answer. I have the module copied from the directory
2.4.34.6/kernel/drivers/net where 2.4.34.6 is the unpacked file
Bering-uClibc_modules_2.4.34.6.tar.gz.

I use -as is said in chapter 17 of the users guide - the file
bootdisk.ima to construct the boot image and I used a 2nd floppy to load
the pcnet32.o file.
By the way, there is a slight error in the users manual as it says:
"Copy pcnet32.o from second floppy to '/lib/modules' with the command:
cp /mnt/pcnet.o /lib/modules".
I assume it must be :"cp /mnt/pcnet32.o /lib/modules"
at least in my case that worked. I have the module in /lib/modules but
it gives the segmentation error when I try to load it.
It's size is 24272 bytes maybe this is not correct? or are there other
reasons why loading a module can give an error like that.

according to dmesg I have in my hardware system 2 RealTek RTL 8139 cards
with different chips, one the 8100B/8139D (assigned to eth0) and the
other RTL-8139A (assigned to eth1). My new firewall will of course use
these cards so the exercise with VMware Player is only an excercise to
be sure everything works as expected.
