Kp,
Thanks for your speedy reply. I also have some doubts about Vmware 
Player but I tried other driver modules to load and they all load 
correctly or indicate there is no device (e.g. ne.o) only 8390.o loads.
I am not convinced that Vmware is the culprit but I will look on the 
vmware mailing list see if I can find something there.
