IMO, you need 3-5 times the solar power as you have continuous power consumption.
The solar panels should have regulators built-in, unless you wire them in series, in which case you will require an external regulator. This regulator manages the batery charging. If your devices will handle the 19-27 volts from the battery-set, then you will not need an additional regulator. Some APs can be easily be modifed (change one capacitor) to run on this type of power. This is the preferred and least wasteful configuration - A 24V solar panel directly charges a 24V battery-set. The battery directly powers the APs. The 5V regulator in most APs is exceedingly efficient as it is usually the "switching" type. The old analog regulators, viz 7805, are horrendously worse in this situation. /sw On Sat, 2004-10-02 at 07:05, Vladimir Ivashchenko wrote: > Hi Guys, > > Can you give me a few ideas of what solar panels / batteries / > voltage regulators you're using? > > Steve Wright wrote about "Re: [leaf-wisp] Out of topics : solar panel calculation": > > On Fri, 2004-10-01 at 20:00, bino_oetomo wrote: > > > I need to deploy a rural located WiFi repeater. > > > The electric load will be around 30 watt. > > > I plan to use a 600 watt ups, and charge the baterry externaly using solar > > > panel. > > > > > > what kind/capacity of solar panel will I need ? > > > > > > Hello Bino, > > > > that is not OT at all.. many of us do that. 8-) > > > > The biggest secret with solar-powered installations is to use efficient > > regulators.
