Personally I think that football management is not dissimilar from managing any other team of individuals. Understanding abilities is one thing, but group dynamics, value of individual to team (this is where my arguments floundered on Ian Harte, who was crap BUT still made us more solid than when he was out!!) and so on are key. In other words any good manager in a people-focussed environment would have some, and maybe all, of the skills required to be a footie manager. Having some good coaches in the club would be all I'd need to cope with my ever-decreasing mobility!! In true Yosser Hughes fashion - "I could do that". As a manager you'd know we can't go out and buy Gyan, so we'll have to play Becchio etc. There are plenty of managers who weren't great players (Mourinho for one) - it's about organisation and man/idiot management. I agree with your comments re Grayson though - of course he can see the limitations - he has eyes etc. He's just playing the hand he's got. He may well be the best option for the team, but that doesn't mean he isn't on the crapper end of the list. John PS what was your message written in - get some weird characters if you type in it!!
