I think it is relevant, mainly because you have probably had some kind of coaching to show the value of moving defenders away (or around) from where they want to be, or you learned this through experience. Plus I personally liked to put myself about, and I know how effective that can be both in terms of severely pissing off defenders to the extent they forget about what they are supposed to be doing, and also how it can help the team by setting a tempo/example which hopefully the rest of the team can pick up on. It was a direct response to Rich telling us to make our own minds up and not simply saying Becchio deserves his place in the team just because Grayson does.
But anyway, I wasn’t saying that to express an opinion you have had to play football yourself, I was saying that playing football either to any level or any length of time means you should really be able to appreciate any/all qualities in a striker beyond the glaringly obvious, even if you don’t personally value those qualities. What that does in turn is perhaps make you see that the football manager values those qualities a bit more than you do. Ie there is a REASON Grayson picks Becchio. There is also perhaps a REASON you lot aren’t pro football managers J In other words, Grayson isn’t a fucking idiot, he can see Becchio’s limitations, but he can also see his strengths, and at the moment he believes those strengths ADD to the team sufficiently for him to warrant his place in the starting 11. That may not be your opinion, or others, but what some of us are saying is that we tend to trust Grayson’s opinion – given he is an ex professional, has coaching badges and possibly most of all, he sees Becchio (and the alternatives) on the training pitch all week, so he is much more aware of Becchios weaknesses/strengths/potential than any one of us, so all things being equal (even if you were a pro manager/coach) his opinion still trumps yours!
