More worrying is Kaspers tendency not to communicate or to command his defence well enough. He needs some experienced coaching in that department (as if I'd know anything about it).

Spot on. For a start someone might suggest to him that it would be OK occasionally to come off his line and catch the odd ball rather than leave it for the other defenders to try to head.
Also the second half was a bit like the old life of a pigeon joke
Step 1 Portsmouth attack
Step 2 Ball breaks to Leeds defender
Step 3 Ball passed to Collins
Step 4 Collins panics and passes back to Kasper
Step 5 Kasper takes leisurely aimless punt upfield
Step 6 Ball goes straight to head of Portsmouth player
Step 7 Go to step 1 and repeat.

It's not how Arsenal play.

I dont think Kasper threw the ball out to the feet of a Leeds player once.
Similarly (and particularly in the first half) McCartney made several bursts down the wing in support of Gradel who never passed to him once, chosing to turn inside and invariably losing possession
