I've got to agree with a mate of mine who, altho we like the 4-5-1 away from home, we think Grayson should go more attacking at home with 2 upfront, Somma +1. Probably sacrificing Killkenny.
I think we'd have won yesterday with 2 "proper" strikers on earlier in the 2nd half, if not from the start. And that's nothing against Howden, who was brilliant yesterday, who could still play behind the front two. My only disagreement with Rich's analysis is that I think Johnson is playing his best football at the moment and he would be my choice in the midfield role. Staying at 4-5-1 / 4-3-3 has the advantage of Howson playing in his best position, a more solid midfield and Kilkenny prompting the attacks. 4-4-2 hasnt really worked this year but its becoming impossible to ignore Somma's goals. I know many will prefer 4-5-1 with Somma upfront but i just cant see Grayson doing it. I thought we were excellent yesterday, the wingers are both in a purple patch but the support they got from both full-backs was excellent, creating space for them and avoiding them getting double-marked. There was one counter-attack where McCartney played it down the left to Gradel, who played on to Snodgrass - in the middle to the on-rushing Howson whose shot was deflected narrowly wide, that would have had them salivating in the Arsenal-Barca game.
