After having listened to the game yesterday and then having seen the
highlights on TV I was interested to hear the thoughts of the Listers
who were at the match (thanks lads, over and above the call of duty I'd
say). I was specifically interested in comments about the depth of the
squad and the room for manoeuvre with formation. What strikes me about
yesterday (and remember I have some strong connections inside Norwich)
was the fact that both sides are being "built" rather than "bought".
Having said that, I do know that Delia and Michael Smith have just sold
some of their shareholding to their deputy chairman, who in return, has
injected £2m into the club to underpin their race for the Premiership.
Given that this can now only be spent on incentives to existing players
and loanees, I wonder how this will pan out for one of our major
promotion rivals. Clearly there is no lack of ambition (at all levels)
down at Carrow Road to achieve premiership status but I'd be interested
to see just how much of this sort of strategic planning is going on at
the other half dozen contenders. I think I can see it at Leicester. I
sincerely feel it would help if we could see the same sort of thinking
at Carrow Road being openly displayed at Elland Road. Then maybe we
would see Rich's excellent point about the midfield being answered.
