That's the nub of the problem. Can we really believe that whoever is
responsible for bringing in new players will actually improve the squad?
If we continue with a policy of bringing in players who aren't good enough
to get into the first team at places like Derby, Preston and Ipswich etc
then we shouldn't be surprised if those players aren't good enough to get us
promoted. And there is no point bringing players in who are no better than
the ones you have and then cant get in the team.
Like all businesses it's about cash flow. We have a big cash outflow on
players because we have a big squad, several of which are superfluous. We
need a smaller squad but spend the money on good terms to attract players
who can make a difference. Last close season we brought in half a dozen
players and we would have managed just as well without any of them. We just
needed to offer Hooper better terms than Celtic.
