Max is a real miss - not just for the guile and pace but for his goal scoring.
With McCormack on a bit of a dry spell you wonder where the goals are going to
come from. Keogh does not know where the goal is, Becchio when he has come on
is nothing like the player he has been in the past for us,in midfield Clayton
has got a few and does look capable of scoring but Howson has now gone 22 games
without a goal, and Saturdays goal was Snoddys first from open play all season.
Pugh got two in two (as he did in his first spell) but does not look like he
will get into double figures. So whilst we were scoring for fun when Ross was
on fire we now wonder where the next goal is coming from.
As for general play, it used to be great to watch Max running at defenders,
whilst there was sometimes a touch of the Huckerby / Forest Gump about him,
where he did not seem to know where he was going etc, it was very effective and
created room for others. As you say Sam does add sometihng in that area (as
does White when given a bit of space) but is not as good as Max so far. Nunez
with limited chances he has had does not yet look up to the task.So it mainly
falls to Snoddy to do the mazy attacking runsTo be fair Cardiff were very well
organised and disciplined and we still had 20 shots on goal with 12 on target
according to the stats I saw, and their keeper was man of the match so it is by
no means all doom and gloom. We do need Ross to start scoring again (he has not
scored since his woeful miss v Coventry) and either Keogh and the midfield to
chip in or Becchio to do what he does best and get his 2yard headers
Anyway bring on Blackpool - there are not many times I go the the game to see a
team I have never seen before but Wed v Blackpool will be a new one for me

"it all may have
been different if Max were still here."This was the same thought I had during
the game.  Sam appeared to introduce some level of guileand inspiration when he
came on, but Max G is still a huge loss, perhaps one we haven't come to
termswith yet.Fortress ER sounded like a ghost town (ahem!) for much of the
game from my armchair perchDave
