I thought the England team gave all they had - their downfall was mainly that they were outplayed and outthought. Apart from some terrible passing and hoofs up the park (which is in line with a team uncomfortable with the ball and under pressure aka Leeds United) there was no more in the tank. I think it's more appropriate to be giving credit to the Italian side who prevented England playing. What is depressing is that England as a footballing nation have fallen further behind and although the Premiership is perceived as one of the "best" leagues, when it comes down it, England are barely in the top six globally. We're out now which is about right, we qualified from a weak group and if Italy hadn't seen us off, rest assured Germany or Spain would have. So when everyone's "gutted" about the exit defeat, I can't help thinking what people really expected. At least we have avoided the humiliation of a thrashing by Germany or Spain.
