But Matt, the comparison is the whole point. They are both within the same offence guidelines which gives a max sentence of six months. The whole point about sentencing is that you have to mentally group these things in order to get a sense of proportion. That is why I chose to put my son down as an example. If his assailants plead guilty, they will get a max of 4 months after a reduction for early guilty plea. This is the same sentence as for a push in the face. The assaults are as far apart in seriousness ad you can get. That is why myself (and possible Ian M) think 4 months is over the top.
I am not saying that the idiot from Friday doesn't deserve prison, I just think that he should be there for the Breach of the banning order and not the assault.
