I've found as I've got older my tastes Have become slightly more
sophisticated.
For a evening in, in front of a roaring radiator, I like a good peaty
scotch.
For a day time piss up I find you can't beat a vanilla spiced rum as a
chaser with a pint, whilst on an evening lash I stick to jack Daniels
and coke, as it's easy to order when rat arsed JD Coke mate...
My partner (I hesitate to use the term girlfriend as she's 37 and I'm
48, so she's neither a girl and she's not thar friendly) is going to be
giving birth to our first son (we already have a daughter) , in the
next 4 weeks, so she's been off the alcohol for about 9 months, however
she did like a drop of the old vino, so I'd like to get her a nice
bottle to go with her stitches and stretch marks...
All advice greatly received as my knowledge of wine is limited to,
well, it's made from grapes..
Thanks
Wayne

That's interesting, sort of backs up why I think most of the Rioja I
have tasted to date is at best average.
As for Lee Peltier, an average bottle of Rioja with a dose of piss in
it.

big bodegas sell the average stuff only to the chains and the medium to
small ones simply don't sell to them at all as the margins are tiny.

such a strong taste that you either like it or not. I have a mate who
loves Spain who reckons that when you get above A-L-20 for a bottle of
Rioja the tastes start to get complex and subtle. Never spent that much
mysen so can't comment but you're Rioja's in supermarkets / wine shops
are just too samey for me.
