Mark,

I sympathize but really, who are the pass-masters that McDermott has at his
disposal? He inherited a squad of limited journeymen - Brown, Pugh, Varney,
Tonge etc. - on decent wages that made it hard to sell them on, and he hasn't
been given much cash (yet) to strengthen the team. In his selections he has
favored players in the squad who can pass and move - McCormack, Mowatt
(promoted from the youth team), and Murphy (allegedly) - but he hasn't had the
funds to go out and buy the Barcelona B team (and frankly, who'd want them
given that that clobber Becchio turned out for them?). Then there's Byram, who
missed all of pre-season and clearly isn't back to his best - hard to blame
McDermott for that. I think it's a little harsh to accuse him of being "behind
the times." So far I see a manager doing well with very limited resources.

Cheers!

Sean

If only we'd hired Roberto Martinez all those years ago or someone like him
that
understands how the modern game has developed. For over a decade now we've been
chained to the huff and puff of limited British tactics and skills with no
plans
to develop modern footballers. Consistently second best in every game, almost
always out played and seldom dominant in possession of the round thingy.
Our plight has very little to do with money and more with hiring managers and
coaches that are behind the times...how else can one explain Brown, Peltier and
Pugh still getting playing time and don't forget the biggest clogger of the
lot....Beechio over the span of many years.
Cheers
