Mark, I sympathize but really, who are the pass-masters that McDermott has at his disposal? He inherited a squad of limited journeymen - Brown, Pugh, Varney, Tonge etc. - on decent wages that made it hard to sell them on, and he hasn't been given much cash (yet) to strengthen the team. In his selections he has favored players in the squad who can pass and move - McCormack, Mowatt (promoted from the youth team), and Murphy (allegedly) - but he hasn't had the funds to go out and buy the Barcelona B team (and frankly, who'd want them given that that clobber Becchio turned out for them?). Then there's Byram, who missed all of pre-season and clearly isn't back to his best - hard to blame McDermott for that. I think it's a little harsh to accuse him of being "behind the times." So far I see a manager doing well with very limited resources.
