I went. Struggling slightly due to drinking more than was good for me Friday
night.
Started ok - a couple of pints in the dragon before the game at least stopped
my hands from shaking.
On to the game. I thought we started brightly and should really have scored -
murphy's shot deflected to Taylor who had an open goal if he'd hit it first
time. He didn't and the keeper got back to make a decent save. Only other thing
of note was a 20 yard strike from Morison that narrowly missed the corner flag.
As Dave has already said, nothing much else happened. Their left winger ,
Antonio , looked good but I thought wooton did ok against him. He beat him a
couple of times but bamba covered for him.
Interesting that the potential car crash partnership of bamba and bellusci kept
another clean sheet despite silvestri failing to claim a number of crosses.
For me the game felt like a missed opportunity although I think a few months
ago we'd have lost this game.
I think on this occasion redders got his selection wrong - too many players
outside their natural position. He seems determined to give sharp a run but he
was awful again. He's not big enough, quick enough or good enough at holding up
the ball to play up front on his own. If we are playing with one striker it has
to be Morison but instead he was on the right.
Also, we had a left back playing left wing, a right back at left back and a
centre back at right back. I think wooton does well defensively at right back
but we lose out going forward with him there. Quite often he's the man in space
but when he gets it he doesn't do anything. He can't burst forward like Byram
and often slows play and allows the defence back into position. He can't cross
a ball to save his life either and it's no wonder the other teams leave him
unmarked - they know he can't hurt them.
I understand that redders likes the 4231 (more a 451 most of the time) but
there are too many square pegs in round holes). I'd like to see him try
something different in the rest of the season - I'd go 352 with Byram / Taylor
wing backs and Morison up top with sharp or antenucci. It's not as narrow as
the diamond and would allow more of our players to play in their best positions.
