Time to give a bit of a preview of this season from the Togan throne/armchair..
Transfers etc out: Overall we seem to have got rid of quite a few players that we didn't need. Thompson and White never really made the grade. Tonge was past his best. Taylor looked a decent backup keeper, but no great loss. Sharp & Morison never really impressed Austin, while effective in some games was overrated IMO. Various inconsequential loanees have gone, the most significant of which was Adryan, who left half way through the season anyway. The only 2 who were anywhere near 1st choice were Austin & Sharp. Incoming: Bamba is a very good signing, although not completely new. Turnbull and Horton will be adequate replacements for Taylor & Cairns Adeyemi will be first choice at least until Murphy gets back, and looks pretty useful on the glimpses I've seen so far. Wood, I'm quite hopeful about him, and Erwin look like they are replacing Morison and Sharp. They need to provide goals. Dallas: Well we've needed a winger for a while now. You could say as an attacking midfield player, he is replacing Adryan. Ajose coming back from loan, though I'm not sure how long for. Arguably 4 of these will be 1st choice - Bamba, Adeyemi, Wood, Dallas and I would say that most of the signgings should be at least as good as the players they have replaced. The balance/cover looks OK, although I'd like to see another left back to push/cover Taylor. On the managerial side, Rosler gives the impression of knowing what he wants and is probably in a stronger position than Redfearn was when it comes to 'managing' Cellino. I think he has a bit more of a plan of which players he wants, and how he is going to use them. I think the big question is where are the goals going to come from? Looking at the 20 most likely outfield players, their records over the last 2 seasons make more than 50 league goals between them look unlikely, so 3 or 4 of them need to really improve. I think the top half is well within Leeds grasp, but looking at the sides who just missed out last year like Ipswich, Boro, Derby, Forest, Wolves and the money available at Hull, Burnley, QPR and improving Fulham I can't really see a finish above about 8th. Especially considering that Leeds are only ever a small step away from some crisis or other. Thanks KOT. ____________________________________________________________ UK Shared Business Services Ltd.
