I see what you’re saying Dave, just a bit worried what happens if Taylor gets
injured or loses a bit of form.
Berardi moving over, or Cooper have to step in I guess, which may or may not
mean Byram dropping to right back, and a lot of the team getting disrupted with
at least one player out of position.

Having seen some of the pre-season, what would you say would happen?

Also, who is the likely starter alongside Bamba? Cooper or Bellusci?

Kev.

Pretty pleased with the close season too Kev.

Still looks to lack another winger - this heavy metal pressing lark, by Uwe's
own omission is a tiring formation that requires squad rotation especially in
midfield and up front. Byram and Dallas either side of Wood looks good. But if
you want to rotate Byram and Wood with other players, the quality drops off
fast (Doukara seemingly next in line). Hopefully the rumoured one further
signing will address this. The lad Buckley from Sunderland would seem the
obvious one.

Depth in midfield will look much better once Murphy gets fit and back and I
thought Phillips looked good when he came on against Everton. In my greedy
dream world we'd get in Barton (yes, I know, a lot of luggage there) - a late
career mature Barton could do a lot for that young midfield. But that isn't
going to happen.

In defence my greater concern is centre back the numbers (Bamba, Bellusci,
Wootton, Cooper, Killock) cannot cover a lack of quality (only really Bamba).
If we want to be seriously challenging, we would ideally bring another quality
centre back in (and let Wootton go if we need to balance out). Full back I
think we can muddle through and place some faith in the well regarded youth
lads there as cover.

So quite a lot of steps forward which ti so be applauded, and I would hope top
half, but probably still 2 more quality signings away from feeling we're really
"having a go".
