Not a clue where to start (or finish) with this one - in some ways one of the
strangest games I have ever seen in over 40 years of watching Leeds
It was the game that literally had everything 7 goals and a red card, us
getting hammered then the best comeback ever and then nothing to show for it
against a team who had not won away all season, and, if that was not enough a
performance by steve morrison that is up there with the best performances of
anyone ever at ER - and yes I did say steve morison, you know steve morison
that Warnock bought to replace Becchio, steve morison that played lots of games
for Leeds and scored three (?) goals . steve morison that had the best
individual performance at ER since probably Thierry Henry or to quote Leeds
fans today "F**K Morison, F Morison " repeat over and over
De Brok made his debut and I genuinely cannot tell you if he was good, bad or
indifferent, so crazy was the game today
We started OK and Lassogga came close with a header and a shot - both on target
both saved by the keeper , albeit he should perhaps have scored with the shot
when put through by Phillips. At the other end they had one shot that just went
wide of the far post and they caused us a few problems from set pieces etc
Then after 15mins or so they had a shot from the edge of the box, in it went 1
up to them, or so we all thought, but as their number 14 did some stupid bowing
celebration and everyone in the ground thought we were one down, the ref went
over to the lino and chalked it off. What a relief and what an escape we all
thought. Then seconds, not minutes later it was 0 1 as a cross by the brilliant
Morison went over Berardi's head and was nodded home. Following that they hit
the bar, had Felix making a great save and then pushing another save into the
danger area and put out for a corner by Pontus.
We were really under the cosh and then Cooper went into a tackle just inside
their half and the next I knew both benches were pushing and shoving each other
- turns out Coopers tackle was a bad one and he got a straight red. Not long
after they scored again as a cross was put it at close range
So half time and two down and down to ten men. The 30+ thousand Leeds fans gave
vent to their feelings as the players left the pitch , lucky to be only 2 down
I spoke to my mate and we reference the Bristol promotion game when we won with
ten men and a goal down - we could not remember us or anyone else winning wiht
10v 11 when two down. Well we nearly rewrote the record books
Right from the start Roofe went down the wing and his cross was met by the
impressive Lassogga , showing us what he can do wiht the right service , and he
smashed it home. His reaction showed that he does care
A few minutes later and their keeper dropped a crosss, this led to a real
scramble and Roofe sat on the floor poked it home 2 2 - blow for full time ref
, please
Soon after that and it was a miracle , Pablo fed Lassogga on the edge of the
box and he hammered it in - brilliant finish and against all odds we were 3 2
up = blow for full time now ref, please.
Both teams had chances after that as both Lassogga and Morison won every header
and held the ball up and brought other players into it - 2 centre forwards
showing how to play the game
Then TC decided to make a change , but instead of taking off the tiring and
limping Lassogga he took off the lively Roofe and then was forced a few minutes
later into taking Lassogga off.
With no strikers on the pitch we lost our momentum and forward movement and let
them back into it. We wanted the clock to speed up but it didn't and Morison
(F**K Morison) put the ball into the box and substitute and Leeds reject
TomElliott placed it past Wiedwald 3 3 - come on ref, blow now
Then as the board went up for 4 more minutes Millwall struck again and the
great comeback was over, or was it ? Seconds after the goal we had one last
chance but their keeper saved it on the line and that was that 3 4
A crazy game , we can take some positives from it, Lassogga proved he can be
lethal at this level if we give him the right service. We also showed great
heart
On the minus side, our lack of discipline showed again with yet another red
card, we got no points and worst of all we made Steve Morison (" F**K Morison)
look not just competent but a world beater
So a great entertaining game but one from which we managed to get no points
against a really shit team
The drink and drugs have mellowed me out and so I can accept it was fun, but
for fans for whom the result is the be all and end all - this was awful
No doubt I have got some of the chronology wrong and missed lots out, it was
tha sort of game but watch the highlights to find out what really happened
