Impacts on Biodiversity
Charlie Sherwin, Australian Conservation Foundation

May 22nd is National Biodiversity Day. Charlie Sherwin, Biodiversity
Campaigner from ACF tells us about biodiversity. He outline why we need to
know much more about species ecology - how often they reproduce, what they
eat, and what other species they are interdependent on; the impact of land
clearing and invasive non-native species in order to adequately conserve
our biodiversity.

"Opposing the Farming Prawns on the Blackmore River, near Darwin, NT"
Kirsten Blair,=20
The Environment Centre of the Northern Territory, Darwin=20
More than 500 hectares of native vegetation would be cleared under a
proposal by prawn farm developers Phelps-Panizza. After having been moved
from one site already, the aquaculture development which would be one of
the largest in Australia, is trying to set up shop on the Blackmore River
which feeds in to the Darwin Harbour. Kirsten Blair from the Environment
Centre of the Northern Territory, talks about the impacts that this prawn
farm venture would have, and so why they're opposing it.

In: " Well it's actually a 790 hectare site=85=85."
Out: "=85doubling the Australian capacity for prawn farms."
Dur: 6'48"
