Yes Patti, there is an easier way.  Dick Eastman, the well-known genealogy
blogger and trainer, recommended Dropbox for this on his blog a while ago.

I must say, it has certainly solved my backup issues.  It syncs all of my
laptop and desktop genealogy files and it backs them up off-site -
automatically whenever I save a file.

And the 2GB account is free!  It works so well, I'm ready to buy the 50GB
size for $9.99/month to back up my whole HD without having to burn CDs or
thumb drives.
