The source contains all of the required information so there's no need for the 
citation.  Under Publication Facts in the Source, I put all of the information 
from the email header.  If the subject line isn't descriptive enough, I will 
add a more descriptive subject line.

I should have been clearer.  For single emails, I don't use the Citation or 
Source Detail if it is only linked to one person.  I'll use it if it is linked 
to many others.

Since I'm still cleaning up my GEDCOM import, I may find this isn't a good way 
to handle this.

I am curious - why should there be no Citation or Source Detail just
because you only had one e-mail?  The fields on the main tab for Source
Detail are Record Date and Subject Line.  Every e-mail has a Record Date
and most have a Subject Line (unless the sender didn't bother to write
anything in there), so even if you only ever get one e-mail from someone
you will have Record Date and quite probably a Subject Line.
