You don't *have* to use the additional screen though. There are many of us who prefer not to, for various reasons, and who put complete addresses in the Location field. > >2) In the FTM single name field, I had the full given name & in ‘(‘ >&’)’s the nick names, other spellings, etc. These extra pieces need >to be moved into the AKA. You can also use the following format for nicknames: Jennifer Margaret "Jenny". With the right options selected, this would read as Jennifer Margaret in headings or main entries, but Jenny in narratives in Reports. > >3) My FTM Source data doesn’t follow the Source Writer format & after >the import appears in the “Detail Comments” of Legacy Source. You don't *have* to use SourceWriter, but if you choose to do so the "re-building" of your Sources will be largely a manual task. > >4) In FTM, I used the Notes file to record Census, Land records, >Newspaper clippings, Obits, Wills, Probate, etc. In Legacy, it >appears that many of these items could be Events. Again, you can move these entries to Events if you wish but there are some people who prefer to use only the Notes field and not Events, I believe. One of the great beauties of Legacy is that it is very flexible and you don't have to follow slavishly the "suggestions" of the programmers - in other words just because a field is called "State" for example, you can enter a County or Province or something in that field if you want or you can simply leave it blank! -- Jenny M Benson Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages after Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ Archived messages from old mail server - before Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp To unsubscribe: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/LegacyLists.asp
