To me, in this context, it's any piece of information that I believe to
be a reasonable (for my value of reasonable!) certainty!

A Parish Baptism register showing that someone was baptised in St Mary
Newington is, to me, a fact.  A Patron Submission to the IGI showing
that someone was "of London" is not, to me, a fact.
