Emphasis:
How does one input pre Oklahoma, i.e; Indian Territory or the area
that was once called Northwest Territory (before it was broken down into
States)?

Well, I use the original name whenever I can. It tells me right off the
bat it is pre-United States. I still follow the four-part location
format (keeps things simpler for me). Examples:

Colonial America, Virginia Colony, Newport County, Jamestown
Indian Territory, Oklahoma Territory, Curtain County, Choctaw Nation

and so on. Of course, you can enter however you choose.

Robert

(P.S. To the rest of us- I *hope* this plain text! My Thunderbird says
it is plain text, but to me sitting here the fonts look like slightly
different sizes.)
