Judy, That is the behaviour which I would expect, and to be honest I am suprised that WORD has, in the past, worked any differently.
I have never used Word, so I cannot really advise. but I cannot see how Word can give a new source an appropriate number - ie the next in line, so a number after the last reference needs to be used. when that has been done, why cannot you just merge the two into one by deleting whtever severates the two lists? I take it that you are adding the new references as superscript hyperlinks and puting the Source Details at the end of the Legacy Sources, with the appropriate anchor?
