First, the photo style doesn't matter. Each hard drive should have identical 
photo files to maintain sameness. Under Master Source for either flavor (basic 
or source writer) it has a place named pictures. It accepts all media. The 
digitized file, for your case, needs to be added to both the 'edit master 
source definition', and also to any event it belongs to, or anywhere a photo 
icon exists.
I have added some photos to over 20 people. Legacy only saves the address, not 
20 copies of the photo, just 20 people have the same photo address attached to 
their photo screen.
I hope this is clearer to you than the first note.
