I know you said you were already into this project for more than a year, but I'm wondering if this might not be able to be better automated. You said the import put source info. into notes, and you've got to move them back out to the source. Is this the master source or the details? I'm going to assume details, as you wouldn't have to edit all the individuals if it were at the master source level, right? Sources are imported as basic, are you just editing the same basic source that was imported or creating a brand new source? If new, still basic, or Source Writer?
I'm thinking if you are staying with basic, it may be possible to run your GEDCOM through a preprocess step to better prepare it for import. The hope of that step would be that the info is imported into the correct source field and not into the notes? Would that be helpful to you at all?
