Thanks.  I'm aware that I can manually change the colors.

However, would you know how **Legacy changes the color ** when a source is
added to the birth, death, etc. entries?

Go to:
Options >> Customize >> Colors,
and click on the "Contents" button. Choose whatever color you want,
but do NOT choose a color the same as the background.
