That happens to me also. Here is my example of the problem from 2 years
ago...

1) I receive Ron's list msg as "1...@mail.legacyusers.com".
2) Jenny receives the same list msg as "4...@mail.legacyusers.com".
3) Jenny replies to Ron's list msg.
4) Jenny's reply comes to me with In-Reply-To of
"4...@mail.legacyusers.com" (which technically I never received).
5) So Jenny's reply can't be threaded under Ron's msg.

The way it used to work:

1) I receive Ron's list msg as "abc@RonsMachine".
2) Jenny receives the same list msg as "abc@RonsMachine".
3) Jenny replies to Ron's list msg.
4) Jenny's reply comes to me with In-Reply-To of
        "abc@RonsMachine" (which I did receive).
5) So Jenny's reply is threaded under Ron's msg.

The "when I reply to a message it does get properly threaded" works
properly because...

1) I receive Ron's list msg as "1...@mail.legacyusers.com".
2) I reply to Ron's list msg.
3) My reply comes to me with In-Reply-To of
        "1...@mail.legacyusers.com" (which I DID receive).
4) So my reply is properly threaded under Ron's msg.
