Dennis and Bjørn and any other users who have a problem with your mail readers
not threading things properly.

I have reported the threading issue to SmarterMail a couple of times over the
last couple years. Each time this heated thread starts. I'm really sorry that
they don't seem to want to fix the problem. What would help would be if we had
more people complaining to them and maybe they would decide it was worth fixing.

It's not because I don't care but over the last couple years there as only been
a couple people who have complained about the threading being a pain for them.
There are some nice management features with their system that I do like for
managing bounces and things like that. If it was as simple as a day of my time
and everything could be moved and re-setup correctly on a new mail server I'd
have done that a long time ago. However, I don't know what problems the new
server would have. Also, I'd probably have to switch from a Windows server
over to a linux server. The best solution would be for SmarterMail to issue a
change or fix.

So, for those who know what this thread is all about the best thing to do would
be for you to submit a problem report to SmarterMail and maybe they will have a
desire to fix or change how it works now.

In their defense I do know they are widely used on many, many ISP's and on
many, many virtual servers by hundreds of thousands of websites. They are very
highly rated as a mail server. It seems like the issue hasn't been very
important for them to fix yet or they would be working on it.

I'll tell you what I will do Wendy. To make you happy I'll unsubscribe
from the LUG for a month in sympathy with Bjørn. Oooops. If I
unsubscribe there's a good chance I'll have problems resubscribing
because of whatever problems exist in the LISTSERV's subscribe
mechanism. So, instead I'll set up a kill filter on my ISP for
LegacyUsers.com. If anyone wants to reach me they can do so at
[email protected].
