Yes Adobe did update around the same time. Maybe that's the trouble I will 
uninstall Adobe and see if that solves the problem.

I won't have Adobe Reader on my computers - it's too ponderous.

I have FoxIt Reader and have been really happy with it - it's also free and has 
a lot of other cool features like being able to highlight passages.
