Ron I tried that and it still wouldn’t work, so I went into set default programs and Adobe had taken over a number of Legacy files so I changed them all back to Legacy, now all is back to normal.
I would like to thank everyone for their help without which I wouldn't have had the courage to do this. Right click on the .ged file, click "Open with" and select Legacy.exe.
