Hi Michele, It sounds like your photo had the date ‘1940’ on the back. I ‘write on the back’ of many of my photos by using a free program called IrfanView. A digital photo has lots of info about the picture stored within it – including the date/time it was taken or scanned. With IrfanView (a viewer and editor), at least, there is also a ‘Comment’ section which allows you to write information about the picture. In a group photo I will add the information to show each person – something you can’t reasonably do in the File Name. I also include the source in most of my photos. Your photo editor may show IPTC data which gives you space for comments as well. Otherwise Google ‘IPTC Viewer’ – there are lots of free ones available.

I am not attaching them in Legacy yet. I just received a photo from my cousin of his grandmother (my grandmother’s sister). It is dated 1940. I have saved it as GlaentzerSusanne01 but is there some way to make a note of the date without putting the date in the file name? michele Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages after Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ Archived messages from old mail server - before Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp Follow Legacy on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/LegacyFamilyTree) and on our blog (http://news.LegacyFamilyTree.com).
