Jeff, Ron is quite right about the ability to transfer information both ways between Legacy and Families. However, to be even more specific, one needs to understand that each transfer is a full copy, replacing the previous version of the file on whichever device one is transferring to.
In other words, if you are adding or modifying data on one platform, you should not simultaneously do data entry on the other platform as it will overwritten in the next copy. You must use one platform (Legacy or Families) at a time for data entry, and copy back to the other before resuming data entry on it. I only say this because some interpret the word 'synchronise' to mean that updates in both systems would be updated in the other, in the end making the two databases the same. It doesn't work that way. Given that I run Families on a smartphone that has a screen and keyboard that is too small (for me) to comfortably do data entry, I use Families only as a display program to access my information away from home, doing all data entry in Legacy. Others, particularly those with tablets, report doing lots of data entry direct in Families. Jeff, To be more specific than so far, Families allows one to synchronise data on a mobile with Legacy on a PC. in both directions. In other words one can copy all your data to Families and manipulate it as you would on you PC. You can also add data to the Families DB and synchronise it back to your PC. What cannot be done is import GEDCOMs, Clearly you can’t write reports, etc..
