Matthew, Easiest way is to use tagging. Be sure Options>Customize>General>Tagging Options>Enable tagging options is checked then click "Save" to make the options active.
Next, clear a tag for use with this process. Start with Control-T or some other method to invoke the Advanced Tagging window. Click "Untag", select a tag number to be untagged, then click "Everyone". That will clear that tag for every individual in the database. Now, with Advanced Tagging window still open, click "Tag", select the tag number you just cleared, then click "Ancestors" or "Descendants" (depending on which relatives you hope to export). If you want both ancestors and descendants of the current highlighted individual, you just click one of those buttons and then do it again on the same tag number for the other button. In the Ancestor Options window, click "Direct Line Ancestors" and set the number of generations as desired. If your intention is to export complete group sheets for all the ancestors, then click the 3 boxes "Include Other Spouses", "Include Siblings", and "Include Spouses of Siblings". Otherwise, leave them blank. Also, decide if you wish Multiple Parents to be tagged and set that box accordingly. Then click "OK" and wait for the tags to be set. Close Advanced Tagging. Finally, with all the people tagged for the export, you can click File>Export To>Legacy File, give the export file a name and click "Save". The "Legacy Export" window should open. Click "All records with an individual tag of " and set the tag number used above. Again, you may want to check the 3 boxes under that to include individuals directly connected with those tagged for export if they are not already tagged. You can click "Try to keep original ID numbers", "Check for valid temple names", "Format names and places", "Include general To-Do items", and "Exclude LDS information" as desired. If you are using any of the Legacy privacy settings or want to bypass Living individuals, you may want to click on the "Privacy" tab. There you can click "Check All" to be sure none of the private individuals are excluded from the export. Likewise for the options to exclude living. Then click "Start Export". You can assign a master source to all exported record at this point if you wish or click "Don't Assign a Source". Wait for the data to be exported to your designated file. You may have to decide on differences in events as they are exporting. I like to click on "For this import, always copy the incoming event items that are missing from the existing event". The option should say "For this export, always copy the outgoing..." but it works as it should. Needs a little wording correction in the program. If you want the export to GEDCOM, chose that instead of Legacy File. If you just want to export to a spreadsheet, you can use the Search>Miscellaneous and look for individuals with the tag you set, click "Create List", then click "Print". Set the "CSV" under Report Destination, determine which fields to output, then click "Create". Import the CSV file into your spreadsheet program. Hope this helps you. I use it quite a bit to send a slice of the master file out to a relative to make updates on their piece of the database. Then they send the updated file back to me and I use Intellishare Merge to put it back into the master.
