I was going to mention that logic problem. Relatives connected to the ascending pedigree could spread quite a distance from the direct line and still be considered relatives. I don't think that distinction comes into play on the descendant lines except for spouses of descendants and possibly their parents.
One thing I failed to mention was how to select descendants if that was the choice. In the Descendant Options, click "Descendants" and set the number of generations, then click "OK" to have them tagged on the selected tag number. The rest is like I described for the ancestors. But the point Ron Ferguson made is very important to consider. Which relatives are you really trying to export? Once you have that answer, then tag and export as required.
