Ireland is the second largest of the British Isles, on which are two separate countries, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland comprises 4 equal and sovereign countries: Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales, and England. The Republic of Ireland, although located on one of the British Isles, is neither a part of Great Britain nor of the United Kingdom.
