Randy,

Thanks for that, I had not seen it before. I particularly like the way in which
it clearly shows that the Isle of Man and the Channel Isles are not part of the
United Kingdom.

What's been helpful to me is this

At last I’m delighted to see others standing up for the correct descriptions
being applied to the constituent countries of the UK and British Isles.

There is one thing which I would like to add, which is important to genealogy
research, and that is that from 1801 until 1921/22 the whole of Ireland was
part of the United Kingdom. It is important that this be remembered when one is
searching for records pre 1921.

Great Britain is an island on which are three equal and sovereign countries
of Scotland, Wales, and England. It is not a country, it is an island. Great
Britain is the largest of the British Isles.

Ireland is the second largest of the British Isles, on which are two separate
countries, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland comprises 4 equal
and sovereign countries: Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales, and England.

The Republic of Ireland, although located on one of the British Isles, is
neither a part of Great Britain nor of the United Kingdom.
