All these workaround seem to work but I was just wondering why nobody just
makes a copy of their existing database and then Legacy is perfectly happy with
having both open at the same time simply because they have two different file
names. If you make your extra copy just before you want to have multiple
windows open, then the data in both is identical. Just be careful that if you
make any changes that you do it on your “real” database and not the copy.

Well, I use a simple workaround to allow "windows" of data to be viewed while I
am working in Legacy.

The easiest method is by keeping an up to date gedcom at Rootsweb world connect
and opening those pages in regular window browsers.

You will not find much of anything that is faster or more secure for your
desktop pc than an Access database foundation as Legacy uses, and I for one
would never want a reduced response time as far as data entry goes.

But thats just my own personal opinion.

Access (the db system underlying Legacy) doesn't seem to allow this. So that's
an indication that version 8 hasn't changed anything in that area. What's really
wanted is a Multiple Document Interface system, but that would entail a total
rewrite. For the foreseeable future, you'll just have to put up with the Split
Screen feature :-)
