Marie, I would be interested to know more about the CLOOZ number/method
you mentioned.
Can you briefly explain a bit more about it so I can know if it's
something I can use in conjunction with my existing system?

Thanks

I use the File ID number for my CLOOZ number. Each document, used as a
source, is numbered, ie Birth 001, Death 001 etc, and that number is placed in
the File ID Number.

CLOOZ links people to the documents. In Legacy people are linked to
people. When I need a document to either review or show as proof for an event
it's very easy to find.

Documents are numbered, placed in an acid free page sleeve, then in a 3
ring binder. When I originally started researching my family in 1975, I used
a family filing system. This often meant making 2 copies of a document
when 2 families were on a document. Now my files are arranged by project
surname, then by type of document [I use the KISS principal] then by number.

I'd be very happy to answer any questions on this method.

Hi everyone,

What do the File ID numbers mean and how can they help me?

Are they indicators of where I am (now) missing images I had previously
attached to my tree but have been lost through the gedcom import?

How can I "fix" them if that is the case?

How can I get rid of them if they are now irrelevant?

And how could I use them to my advantage in the future?

Thanks

Kathy
