Bingo!! You are so right!

When I looked at the search list for those with MH in the notes field I noticed
the tabs to the right included LDS. And sure enough there were the details of
each one in the search list. And yes I did have those arrows.

So now that I have unlinked Family Search I will clear the notes fields.

Thankyou so much to everyone for your input.

I agree with Bert! I have none of these in any general notes or marriage
notes. and I have imported, entered manually and Integrated with FamilySearch
but not synced to it, except individuals I was sure of.

To see if it is possible if you linked with FamilySearch, there will be
little left and right arrows on the right side of the Name boxes and children
lists in Family View. They will be grey if they have no match in the
FamilySearch database and will be red if there is a match and not synced and
green if they have. These arrows and linking can be turned off by going to the
Options>Customize and on the General tab lower right is the FamilySearch box
“Integrate with FamilySearch” uncheck and they will go away and you won’t have
to worry about them.

Thanks for running that test Bert.

The thing is, I haven't got a clue how to do a Gedcom import. I prefer to
have complete control over what goes into my data base so all the information
has been entered manually.

Could I have inadvertently linked to LDS in some way?

Only my paternal line has this problem - in fact most but not all, including
births as recent as 2011.

I am quite happy to go through and delete the notes but it appears this
problem is not an isolated case. (Refer to Ron Taylor's reply)

  Cheers
  Shirley

    OK.

    I did a test.

Installed My Heritage and made a Gedcom from the sample file in it. (JFK
and family) Then I did a Gedcom import into Legacy of this MH-file.

In all General Notes fields appeared RIN MH numbers.

    For instance for JFK himself:Â

    BIRT: RIN MH:IF1
    DEAT: RIN MH:IF2
    BURI: RIN MH:IF3
    DSCR: RIN MH:IF4
    EDUC: RIN MH:IF7
    NATI: RIN MH:IF10
    OCCU: RIN MH:IF6
    OCCU: RIN MH:IF5
    _UID: RIN MH:IF9
    RELI: RIN MH:IF8

So my guess that these RIN MH numbers are generated by My Heritage is
correct.

You say you have entered all your records yourself.

But the problem is that Legacy don't put information into the General Notes
fields by itself.
    The only possilitities are:

    1. You did it yourself
    2. Imported by a Gecom.

    and

perhaps, but I have no clue: 3. By synchronisation through LDS or...?

Thanks Bert, but I have entered every record myself. No doubt someone

        A guess:

I think these RIN MH numbers are generated by My Heritage Family Trees.

When importing a Gedcom made by My Heritage these RIN MH numbers are
not recognized by Legacy; and therefore put into the General Notes fields.

        Hope this helps.

          ÂÂ
No the numbers have no connection with my Legacy RIN numbers. In fact
they are unique eg:
          BIRT:RIN MH:IF7
          DSCR:RIN MH:IF8
          RESI:RIN MH:IF9

Thought: have you copied a source from one person to another person
in the same family?
Thought: pick a person who has these numbers, write down the RIN
numbers they have, and then see who that RIN number matches up with in YOUR own
tree.

I highly fought this has anything to do with ancestry as I have
none of these and I use ancestry all the time.

Your question raised my curiosity.  I used Search>Detailed
Search with these parameters:
              Look for whom?      Individual
              Where to look         Notes-General
              How to look            Contains
              What to look for      MH:
              Clear list before this search
              Click Create List

To my surprise, I have 47 individuals in my database with similar
entries in the General Notes. ÂÂ

I did a similar search with these parameters:
              Look for whom?      Marriage
              Where to look         Marriage Notes
              How to look            Contains
              What to look for      MH:
              Clear list before this search
              Click Create List

This time I found 21 marriages with similar entries in the
Marriage Notes.

They must have come from an import because I don't make that type
of entry.  If you discover where they may have originated, please post
again.  I wish I had an answer but at least you have confirmation that this
is not unique to your file.

After running Check/Repair the following examples are appearing
on the Descendant report for some records only.
              ÂÂ
              DEATH:RIN MH:1F269
              RESI:RIN MH:IF292
              DSCR:RIN MH:IF260
              and also  MARR:RIN MH:FF2
              ÂÂ
Upon investigation I find they are arbitrarily recorded in the
General or Marriage notes.
              ÂÂ
              1. What are these numbers?
              ÂÂ
              2. Why would it only apply to some records and not others?
              ÂÂ
              3. How can I remove them from the Reports/Notes?
              ÂÂ
              Many thanks
              ÂÂ
