Diane,
Are you trying to split the descendants of your grandparents into a separate
file or are you trying to split their ancestors out or both?  The process of
splitting a Legacy database is very easy but you need to define what it is
you're trying to split.  I call that making a "slice" of the database.
Typically, I will slice out all the descendants of a given ancestor and send
that slice to a relative in that line for updating.  The relative updates what
they can and sends the slice back.  Then the slice is merged back into the
master file with Intellimerge.  Another slice is created and sent back to the
relative.  The sequence repeats.  With each cycle, the master file gets better
and the slice changes less.  Once the collaboration effort is working, then
just the new birth, marriage, death, burial, and other events are added to the
slice and master along with sourcing, etc.

Hello,

Today I tried splitting my family file unsuccessfully, even though I printed
out and followed the steps for "Splitting Family Files in Legacy" by David
Berdan.   For some reason, even though I selected the name of my maternal
grandparents, it selects everyone in my entire file.  I've tried this now
four times and get the same result each time.  I then tried a focus group,
and that didn't work either.

I need it split between both sets of grandparents:  Paternal: Pare-Bellrose
in one file and Maternal: Normand-Guertin in the second. Now I don't know
what to do or how to do it.  If others have successfully done this, please
advise what your steps were.

Thanks in advance,
Diane Szabo, long time Legacy user.
