Hello all, I spent some time searching the LegacyUG archives but could not find an answer to my problem.
In my tree I have 5 instances (so far) where a pair of siblings are my direct ancestors. Example: John and Lydia were both born to the same parents in the 1750s. About 100 years later their descendants married and had children and 1 of those children is my ancestor. (In 1 instance it took close to 200 years for the branches to rejoin.) I rely on the Preferred Child * to navigate through my tree. It becomes a problem when I come across the loop. When going back in time, the ancestor in that branch is marked as the Preferred Child. However, when coming forward in time the 1st sibling-ancestor is marked as preferred. It is difficult to remember who is the "Alternate Preferred Child"! When researching I tend to go backward and forward many times. This becomes confusing and frustrating because I invariably jump branches. Sometimes the fastest way to get back to where I want to go is by using the Index to find the person I want. (Very frustrating) So, my Questions are: #1: Can I somehow mark 2 children as preferred (I doubt this)? #2: Is there someway I can mark both siblings so I can see (in the family view) that the split is occurring? This is all about Visual navigation in the Family view. The Report generated through the Publishing center handles these anomalies terrifically! In fact, to find all the "shared" parents, I run the report and save it as a PDF. Then I search "Duplicate." It is very tough to keep track of these splits/rejoins Thanks, Moe (Just upgraded to Legacy 8 today) Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages after Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ Archived messages from old mail server - before Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp Follow Legacy on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/LegacyFamilyTree) and on our blog (http://news.LegacyFamilyTree.com).
