On the Tag Descendants, there is an option to only tag a certain number of 
generations.  Sounds like you would want to set that to 6 (or maybe 5) and then 
manually tag the small number of 7th generation persons of interest.

Thanks, Kurt, but deselecting them is as much work as deleting them one at a 
time. :(  Did I mention that in the generation to be deleted there are close to 
1000 persons?

Looks as if I'll just have to live with them in there but unlinked.
